Our
Ethos
This
is the website of Ruth Levy-So, founder of Natural
Equestrian, horsemanship free from force and coercion.
Western and Compassionate horsemanship trainer based
on Dartmoor near Buckfastleigh, Devon. Ruth has set
up the Natural Equestrian Centre, a yard based on
the principles of healing, empathic training, enhanced
communication and compassionate horsemanship.
Natural Equestrian involves
a different way of being with a horse and of thinking about
the horse. No longer an object you are using in your plan,
by setting your horse free of dominance, and using wisdom,
your horse can choose to become a willing participant and
is not subjugating itself. The advantage. Great horses!
Happy horses and safe horses!
I have a background in Spirituality
and Natural Healing. A Complementary Medicine therapist,
Healer and Animal Empathic I teach a healing way of being
with horses through lessons, workshops and clinics in the
Art of Natural Equestrian.
My horsemanship is based
on Native-American principles of treating the horse as
one would a younger brother or sister with great compassion
and empathy and the Buddhist.philosophy of all things are
connected.
I have studied with various
horse trainers including GaWaNi Pony Boy*, a Cherokee horseman
and educator and
I have set up The Natural Equestrian Centre
which is based on the principles of healing, empathic training,
enhanced communication and compassionate horsemanship.
I hold a BHS Ride Leader's
instructor certificate as well as a Diploma in Applied
Equine Podiatry and am a student of Iyuptala University's
online Equine Studies Programme approved by GaWaNi Pony
Boy.
Moving away from the militaristic
model of horsemanship I believe 100% in horses as sentient
beings that have emotions, feelings and plenty to say about
life, rather than robots to be used in the service of man.
I want to be amongst the pioneers of this new styles of
horsemanship.

"It
is not necessary or correct to use force or power over
the horse to impose our will on it.
"Horses
have feelings. They are very sensitive creatures and
make decisions that they feel will be to their advantage,
usually based on not being eaten! My training style
is based on always building the horse’s confidence
and self esteem. I don’t use force.
"I teach safety and sensitive handing techniques. I want the horse to entrust
me to care for its safety. It’s always a mutual relationship based on communication"
It
is possible to achieve sensitive two-way levels of communication
with the horse that benefit the horse as much as the
rider. When a horse respects you and doesn’t fear
you it is very rewarding.
